Showcase
To celebrate ten years of Biotechnology YES, the BBSRC hosted a Showcase Event at the Dali Universe Exhibition, County Hall, London, on 13th December 2005. The event provided an opportunity not only to celebrate a decade of the competition but also the UK’s world leading position in biotechnology coupled with the scheme’s future investment in bioindustry entrepreneurs.
A number of case studies were presented at the event to highlight the springboard that YES has provided for many participants in the development of their careers. Many YES Alumni were present who have started their own companies or now have professional careers supporting the biotechnology industry.
Over 140 guests attended the event, including biotechnology business leaders, MPs and senior Government officials, who had the opportunity to meet with the YES Alumni and the finalists of the 2005 competition gaining an insight into the impact of the scheme. In addition, Prof Sir Keith O’Nions, Director General of the Research Councils, and Dr Tim Hart, CEO of Cybersence Biosystems and past YES participant, addressed the gathering.
